Francis Bacon:Triptych
Triptych, 1972
Ed. 180
89.5 x 62.5 cm

Francis Bacon’s 1972 'Triptych' shows three figures with diminished body parts. The three representations bear a rhythmic essence: indeed, they are Bacon’s most musical composition, bearing a resemblance to the 'augmentation/diminution' opposition.

Bacon explores the theme of mutilations and prosthetic limbs, in a dialogue between addition and subtraction. This is similar to the theme of bodily parts that somehow awake or fall asleep.
