Peter Burke | MULTITUDE, SOLITUDE.

18 Nov 2015

We are already half way into our major new solo exhibition of British contemporary sculptor Peter Burke, showing until December 5, 2015 at our Knightsbridge gallery. The new series of work features a powerful collection of unique free-standing and wall-mounted sculpture in Burke's signature style.

‘Multitude, Solitude’ is an investigative narrative into our sense of self, our free will and our autonomy. Burke’s new work describes the frailty of the human condition as we move into large urban centers and the effects it has on our individuality.

The model cast figures selectively placed in his work are completely anonymous suggesting a loss of personal identity while at the same time questioning whether or not we remain isolated within the multitude of mass society. The irony of the man-made man is also noted within his work.

Drawing from his background in engineering, Burke employs industrial methods and materials such as steel as a means to convey themes of urbanization, standardization, and the relationship between man and metropolis. His identical cast figures comment on society as a group while also drawing attention to the role and place of the individual.

‘Multitude, Solitude’ is a free exhibition to the public from Thursday 5 November until 5 December during regular gallery opening hours. Please contact the gallery for more details including private views and sales inquiries.
