Playing on the idea of ‘outsider’ and rebellious fashion, as well as on the commonplace perception of middle class Britain, Banksy’s ‘Grannies’ illustrates two elderly women knitting items of garment which bare the phrases ‘Thug Life’ and ‘Punk’s Not Dead’ on them.
‘Grannies’ could be compared to Banksy’s ‘Anarchist And Mother’ piece as it deals with similar issues, such as the gentrification of underground movements and their relation to the middle class.
