Jason Martin (British, b.1970) is an artist who was born in Jersey, UK and earned a BA at Goldsmiths College in London. His paintings are usually produced on large surfaces such as stainless steel, plexiglass, or aluminium. He creates his artwork by covering these surfaces in one single rich colour of paint and then using a large comb-like instrument he pulls across the wet paint. Through various rhythmic continually repeated movements, he works into the thick layered oil to create streaks, lines, and swirls that leave a feeling of a movement that never ends. Due to the energy of the work and thick layering of the oil his work is considered to oscillate between sculpture and painting.
Jason Martin now lives and works between London and Portugal. He is continually shown in solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally including Palazzo Cavalli Franchetti, Venice (2013), Peggy Guggenheim collection, Venice (2009), Kunstverein Kreis GÅtersloh, Germany (2007)
