Jason Martin’s 'Viveur' is a classic example of his 'Day Paintings' series. Originating a style in which Judd’s Minimalism meets de Kooning’s Abstract Expressionism, Martin draws inspiration from Caspar David Friedrich’s metaphorical landscapes.
'Viveur' is, essentially, a study of light and its dynamics: its monochromatic reflective surface allows the viewer to experience different nuances and shades of illumination, so that the focus appears to be connected to the formal aspects of the work, above all. The overall perception one has is thus one of purity, and a fusion between painting and sculpture.
Martin works in London and Comporta (Portugal). His works have been exhibited in both private and public collections around the world, including the Peggy Guggenheim collection in Venice, the Denver Art Museum and the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington DC.
