Roy Lichtenstein:I Love Liberty
I Love Liberty, 1982
Screenprint on Arches 88 paper
Edition of 250, Signed on verso
97.5 x 68.8 cm (38 1/4 x 27 in)

Lichtenstein’s ‘I Love Liberty’ appears to be engaging with American morals and symbols. Fascinated by the Statue of Liberty, Lichtenstein used it as the base for other pieces, such as ‘Painting with Statue of Liberty’, at the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC.

This print, part of a limited edition, concentrates on the statue’s face: the harmonic cohesion of such a symbolic monument and Lichtenstein’s Pop Art style results in a documentation of contemporary American society.
