For Damien Hirst, butterflies are a symbol of fragility and death: With ‘All You Need Is Love Love Love’, Hirst embarks on an exploration of minimalism. Inspired by flies which would die on primed canvases in his studio, Hirst was interested in the concept of a minimalist surface contaminated by insects.

The very simple design of the heart contrasts with the definition of the butterflies. Coming from a limited edition of 50, ‘All You Need Is Love, Love, Love’ makes for one of Hirst’s most iconic pieces.
