NICOLA PUCCI | Majestic Exhibition at Spoleto Museum in Italy

03 Aug 2016

The Italian artist best known for his multi-compositional surrealist works has recently completed a beautifully curated show in the impressive Spoleto Museum near Perugia in between Florence and Rome, Italy. Curated by Gianluca Marziani, Pucci’s surreal dreamlike paintings show classical mastery of technique and form using contemporary subjects and settings. This balance between tradition and the avant-garde echoes the likes of Francis Bacon and sets Pucci apart from defined contemporary trends.

Pucci expands on his work explaining, "I observe the behaviours, the causes which generate the effects interest me, especially on living beings. Observation gives rise to a new interpretation of reality where possible and improbable mingle. Movement becomes an essential element, focused on its course, and it is a motion without fulfilment, a coming about without happening, pure suspension of a gesture...".

Born in Palermo in 1966, Nicola Pucci boasts a masterly style, which has won the attention of prominent art dealers including America’s Larry Gagosian and connoisseurs such as Carlo Bilotti, the late Florida-based international cosmetics buyer and art collector. He has exhibited in Rome’s Carlo Bilotti Museum, becoming the first living Italian artist to be given a one-man show at this prestigious venue. He has also held high-profile exhibitions at Spoleto’s contemporary art museum Palazzo Collicola and the Palazzina Azzurra museum in San Benedetto del Tronto.
